California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 25, 2026

What AB 2577 does, verified August 25, 2026

This bill amends the Health and Safety Code to require settlements in public interest cases related to toxic substances under Proposition 65 to provide a public benefit and be in the public interest. The court must also determine that the settlement reduces exposure to the listed chemical or provides a warning that complies with the act. Attorney's fees will be awarded if the Attorney General objects to the fees set forth in the settlement. The bill also establishes a procedure for the court to enter an award of attorney's fees. The changes aim to further the purposes of Proposition 65.
