<p>The bill amends sections of California's education code to address issues related to educational equity and discrimination. It removes the requirement for teacher instruction and instructional materials to be consistent with accepted standards of professional responsibility, instead requiring them to be balanced, fair, and promote critical thinking while remaining factually accurate and aligned with curriculum standards.</p> <p>The bill also modifies the process for filing complaints of unlawful discrimination in educational settings. Currently, if a local educational agency fails to issue an investigation report within a specified timeline, the state department must attempt to work with the agency before intervening directly.
