AB 276: Background checks.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified February 3, 2026

What AB 276 does, verified February 3, 2026

This bill aims to amend the health and safety code to allow a community care facility to approve an individual to care for children before another state's child abuse and neglect registry check is complete, under certain conditions. The facility must submit a request for the out-of-state check to the department. If the applicant is disqualified, the facility must remove them immediately and notify the department within 3 business days. The bill would also require the state to reimburse local agencies for costs mandated by the state, but excludes reimbursement for this specific reason.
