AB 291: Teachers: credentialed educator apprenticeship programs.
This bill aims to encourage the utilization of apprenticeships as a form of on-the-job training for teachers in California. It requires the commission on teacher credentialing and the division of apprenticeship standards to partner in the dissemination and monitoring of credentialed educator apprenticeship programs. The bill authorizes the commission to issue apprenticeship certificates or permits to educator candidates without a credential who are employed by local educational agencies and participating in approved programs. The commission and division will establish processes and procedures for information sharing, application review, and data collection and reporting. Applicants must submit documentation to the chief for new or expanded programs, and the commission will review these applications and provide written notice if conditions are met.
