AB 506: Pets: sales of dogs, cats, and rabbits.
This bill aims to regulate the sales of dogs, cats, and rabbits in California. A contract to transfer ownership of these animals is void if it requires a nonrefundable deposit. Sellers must disclose the original source and medical information of the animal to the purchaser. If a purchaser is affected by a violation, they can bring a civil action to recover money exchanged and seek injunctive relief and other remedies. The Attorney General and local law enforcement agencies can also enforce these provisions. Sellers must refund any money exchanged within 30 days if the contract is deemed invalid. This bill does not apply to government agencies or public animal control agencies and shelters.
