AB 598: School safety: School Mapping Data Grant Program.

This bill establishes a school mapping data grant program to provide funding for schools to enter into contracts with qualified vendors to obtain school mapping data. The program aims to assist public safety agencies in efficiently responding to on-campus emergencies at schools. To be eligible, a school must have a comprehensive school safety plan in place and implement best practices to protect student and staff security and data. The program requires schools to have a web-based or app-based school safety program that meets specific parameters, similar to existing laws. The bill also makes legislative findings to demonstrate the need for protecting student and staff safety and security.
