AB 821: Pupil instruction: high school graduation requirements: career technical education.

This bill aims to extend the authorization for career technical education to count towards high school graduation requirements indefinitely. Currently, the education code requires students to complete designated coursework in order to receive a high school diploma, including one course in visual or performing arts, foreign language, or career technical education. The existing law eliminates the authorization for career technical education to count towards the graduation requirement on a specific date in 2027, or when a specified event occurs related to university requirements. The bill would make conforming changes to the education code and establish procedures for reimbursement of costs mandated by the state. If the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs will be made according to statutory provisions.
