SB 1048: State Seal of Climate Literacy.
The bill aims to establish a new state seal of climate literacy to recognize high school pupils who have demonstrated mastery in climate literacy disciplines. To earn this seal, pupils must complete at least two approved courses in climate literacy and successfully complete a climate literacy final experiential learning project. The state board will adopt criteria for awarding the seal, and local educational agencies can participate voluntarily. Participating agencies must establish a process for determining if a pupil meets the criteria and provide specified data to the state department of education annually. The state seal of climate literacy will give pupils personal agency to understand and adapt to climate change and its effects.
