SB 54: Court fee waivers: veterans.
What SB 54 does, verified December 7, 2025
This bill would amend a provision in the government code to allow veterans to be granted initial permission to proceed without paying court fees and costs due to financial hardship. The existing law requires applicants to demonstrate a monthly income of 200% or less of the current poverty guidelines to be eligible for fee waivers. However, this bill would specifically exclude veterans' disability service-connected compensation from being included in the calculation of monthly income for this purpose.
