SB 550: California State University, San Jose: legal partnership pilot program.
The bill aims to establish a legal education pilot program at California State University, San Jose, in partnership with a nonprofit law school. The program will operate for six academic years and focus on jointly awarding a juris doctor degree and providing certificate and legal education programs at the undergraduate level. To begin, the program must receive approval from the university's trustees, the law school's governing board, and the law school must have been continuously accredited for at least five years. The university and law school will submit administrative plans and enrollment projections for review before approval. The program will be evaluated by the Legislative Analyst's Office through interim and final evaluations. The program will expire on July 1, 2041, and be repealed on January 1, 2042.
