SB 98: Elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education: immigration enforcement: notification.

California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified December 7, 2025

What SB 98 does, verified December 7, 2025

This bill aims to enhance school safety by requiring schools to notify parents, teachers, administrators, and school personnel when immigration enforcement is present on the school site. The notification must be made in a comprehensive school safety plan that is reviewed and updated annually. Charter schools are also required to include this notification in their safety plans, and postsecondary educational institutions must notify students, faculty, staff, and other campus community members when immigration enforcement is confirmed on campus. The bill also requires community colleges to implement new measures to notify campus community members of immigration enforcement. The bill declares its urgency and requires reimbursement for costs mandated by the state if the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains such costs.
