AB 1588: Vehicles: Sideshow Accountability and Community Safety Act.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 25, 2026

What AB 1588 does, verified August 25, 2026

The Sideshow Accountability and Community Safety Act amends existing laws regarding motor vehicle exhibitions of speed, commonly known as sideshows. It updates the definition of "sideshow" to include the use or operation of any motor vehicle, such as motorcycles or off-highway vehicles, for barricading, blocking, impeding, or obstructing traffic. The bill also increases penalties for engaging in, aiding, or abetting a sideshow by raising fines and imposing mandatory minimum jail sentences. Additionally, it makes these offenses punishable as misdemeanors or felonies if they cause injury to another person.
