AB 2068: California State University: campus presidents: hiring process.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified May 16, 2026

What AB 2068 does, verified May 16, 2026

The bill aims to improve the hiring process for presidents of California State University campuses. The current president can no longer resign or vacate their position without notifying the trustees and the chancellor of their intention to leave. The trustees must establish a 9-member search committee, which will determine the desired qualities of the new president and develop a job description. The search committee will conduct a recruitment effort, initial screening, interviews, and select the final three candidates. The chancellor will host a recorded public forum for the final three candidates and share the recording with the trustees. The trustees must then make an offer of employment and appoint a new president from the final three candidates.
