SB 249: County boards of education: elections: consolidation.
The bill aims to amend the education code and elections code in California. It would require the election of county board of education members to be consolidated with the statewide general election, starting from January 1, 2026. This change would extend the term of office for incumbent members and require staggering of terms if necessary. The bill also requires the county committee on school district organization to determine the staggering method. Additionally, the bill would make conforming changes to the education code and elections code. If the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs would be made according to the existing statutory provisions.
