SB 612: Pupil instruction: high school graduation requirements: career technical education.

California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified February 3, 2026

What SB 612 does, verified February 3, 2026

This bill would amend the education code to require high school students to complete a separate, stand-alone one-semester course in career technical education as a graduation requirement, starting with the 2031-32 school year. The bill would require school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools to offer this course starting with the 2028-29 school year. The course would be prohibited from being combined with any other course. The bill would impose a state-mandated local program on school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools. If the commission on state mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs would be made pursuant to the statutory provisions.
